More Information Community Engagement Program Volunteer Summer 2023
Let's build kids by getting them to build robots! Join us in engaging K-5th grade students in a variety of LEGO robotics activities, building solar-powered critters, becoming ~slime~ mixologists, and anything else that we think of along the way. Your presence will contribute to our ever-growing BadgerBots Community Engagement Program bringing science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) activities to students who are underrepresented in these fields.

Get outside at camp this summer! Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Badgerland hosts a weekly summer camp just a short drive from Madison on beautiful Camp Brandenburg in Dane, WI. Camp Brandenburg 6307 Brandenburg Rd. Dane, WI Our camp hosts girls of all ages and helps them to grow in confidence, courage and character...all while having fun and making new friends! Every week is a different theme but here is a taste of the fun activities you can expect to help lead at camp. --Direct a camp wide scavenger hunt during Adventure Girl: The Lore of Brandenburg --Manage an activity session focused on song singing and skit performing during Camp Dramarama --Get hands on at a Blacklight Face Painting party --Lead a field sports activity station in Gaga ball, 4 Square in the Air, Giant Jenga, and more --Try your hand at whittling --Aid in waterfront sports like paddle boats and canoes --Lead obstacle races, target sports (paint cannons/wrist rockets), Art and Nature Studio activities. There's a job for every skillset! We will provide training, orientation and direct supervision at camp. We will also have a designated staff member at the Madison Girl Scout office to provide technical support and oversee volunteer needs.

Lake View Community School Outdoor Classroom
More Information Outdoor Classroom Volunteer Summer 2023
Support our Outdoor Learning Program Coordinator with various tasks relating to the development, maintenance, and utilization of Lake View Community School's Outdoor Classroom. Tasks will mostly be outdoors in varied weather conditions and may include weeding and mulching our school garden, landscaping in our school forest, and taking students outdoors to engage in nature based learning projects. Lake View Community School is a public elementary school (K-5) located on the north side of Madison on three acres of land that includes a school forest, garden, prairie, pollinators beds, and fruit bearing trees and bushes. Approximately 80% of our students are considered low income, 73% are BIPOC, and 40% are English Language Learners (with 15 home languages represented!) For many of our students, school is the only place they engage with nature. Badger Volunteers are a vital resource for developing and maintaining our beautiful school grounds and their presence makes it easy for students and teachers to take learning outdoors!

Come have fun while helping people in the community fight food insecurity! Your primary responsibility would be to load food into vehicles as they come through the drive through. Volunteers will be cross-trained to fill one or two of a variety of roles during each shift. Roles include: Showers: Provide supplies and access to guests wishing to use the private shower facilities. Laundry: Wash, dry, lightly fold, and bag laundry for guests. Kitchen: Light meal prep, serving, and kitchen clean-up. Float: Organize and distribute various donation items into corresponding areas, stock shower, laundry, and kitchen volunteer areas with supplies.

Assisting with spring garden preparation and maintenance tasks: tool maintenance, preparing seedlings, mulching pathways in the woodland and vegetable gardens, repairing wooden beds, painting shed. Wear outdoor clothing for messy projects. Most work will be done outdoors without schoolchildren, but there may be some opportunities to prepare seedlings and work in the garden with Allis students as well.

Our instructors lead week-long camps. We’ll give you the curriculum, and you’ll put it into action! Duties include: * Presenting lessons in a fun, engaging way * Managing a class (transitioning between activities, keeping the class on task, enforcing behavior expectations) * Effectively working with other instructors and camp counselors * Setting up materials before each session and cleaning up at the end * Assisting with camper check-in, lunch, and check-out * Cleaning up the facility * Completing tasks as assigned by camp director We’d love if you have some familiarity with the following: Scratch or other block-based code languages, LEGO Mindstorms, Minecraft, 3D Printing and CAD, JavaScript, Python, or other programming languages. But it’s not necessary—we can teach you what you need to know.

More Information Community Integration and Companionship Volunteer Summer 2023
Please consider joining us for interactive sessions with our residents with limited community options. Friendship is an immeasurable gift to give to someone. Each week you will provide this gift to someone through activities, walks, reflection services and concerts on our beautiful grounds when weather permits. Inside when weather is not cooperating! This past spring semester Badger Volunteers brought huge smiles to our residents many of whom have lived here since early childhood. The volunteers in turn left with warm hearts because of the friendship they provided. We support some of the most vulnerable medically involved people in the state so the education value you receive through volunteering at Central Wisconsin Center provides you with a fantastic learning experience all while having fun! Masks at our home are still mandatory and you will receive a surgical mask each week to don during your visit. The team should plan on pick up from cab/Uber/Lyft at 3:30pm so that you arrive on our campus by 3:50pm. The activity each week will be from 4:00pm until 5:00pm with ride pick up organized for 5:10pm and a return to campus at 5:30pm.

Every Friday from 6 to 7:30 pm, a diverse group of Americans and internationals meets for English practice, cross-cultural exchanges, friendships, and fun. Many international families participants bring along the children. We need loving and caring childcare volunteers to engage and take care of the children while the parents attend the program. Children usually range from 1 years to 12 years old. We have a fully equipped nursery and an art room where older children can do art projects under the supervision of volunteers. Older children can also be engaged in our play room which has games, ping pong table, futsal, and air hockey table. As a Badger volunteer, you will help extend hospitality to an international child and contribute to make our community more welcoming to internationals. We need you!

We will work in the Greenhouse to help start some seedlings for Spring Harbor Middle School Summer Garden Camps. Next we will prepare the garden beds for planting and begin planting seeds and seedlings. Removing invasive plants like sumac from the property is also one of our projects. working in the Butterfly Garden may be one of our projects. We have a range of outdoor activities in a large garden area. It all helps the Middle School program. Wear comfortable clothing that can get dirty and sometimes wet. This site is not wheel chair accessible yet. Digging in the dirt is a common task! :)

The River Food Pantry
More Information Pantry Session Assistant Summer 2023
• Pack boxes, including shelf-stable boxes, produce boxes, and dairy boxes, with various items (lists of items to be included will be provided). • Sort incoming donations in order to make packing boxes more efficient. This may include meat, dairy, produce, shelf-stable items, eggs, etc. • Add food items to shopping carts. This is done as clients visit and fill out a menu of requested items. Our volunteers take each menu and fill the order, then return the filled cart to the correct client's vehicle. • Load client cars outside as they visit the pantry. This includes rolling full shopping carts outside, packing trucks or backseats with the items, being respectful and welcoming to the clients as they shop, and bringing empty carts back inside to be re-packed. PLEASE NOTE: We ask that you be flexible in moving between tasks as needed. Staff will always be available to answer questions.

More Information Workshop Support Volunteer Summer 2023
Join Allen Centennial Garden staff and interns to host plant and art focused workshops that allow participants to learn skills, develop their plant knowledge, and enjoy our outdoor space. Our volunteers will support our workshops by test running projects, helping participants troubleshoot problems, and have ample opportunity to hone their own creative skills. Workshops run the gamut from learning how to harvest and arrange flowers to dying fabric with plants to mastering the process of container gardening.

Volunteers will be trained on a variety of tasks from which they can choose based on organizational need each week. Tasks include: shelving and organizing books; writing institutional restrictions on envelopes; responding to letters from LGBTQ+ incarcerated people; wrapping, weighing, and stamping packages; and database work. Volunteer sessions are a casual and social community environment.

Are you an artist or crafter? Do you work with animals or love to garden? Ever wonder what it's like to run in a human-size gerbil wheel? The Madison Children's Museum is looking for enthusiastic and engaging volunteers. This position is for those individuals who are interested in volunteering in our Art Studio, Rooftop Ramble, Wildernest, Wonderground, or Possible-opolis exhibit spaces. Museum Fellows in all spaces are given the opportunity to explore their own skills and interests, from helping out behind the scenes, to creating and helping with original programming. Volunteers must consent to a background check, and will attend orientation and training at Madison Children's Museum.
