More Information Afterschool Expeditions Assistant Spring 2020

Be a part of Afterschool Expeditions by helping to facilitate science activities for elementary and middle school students both at the Discovery Building and at select community centers in our area. Duties include leading STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math)-based exploration stations and activities, using educational activities to engage participants in provided curriculum modules. There will be four weeks where the activities will take place in the Discovery Building (2/17, 3/2, 3/30, and 4/20). The remaining shift dates during the semester will take place at pre-determined area community centers. The program runs from 3-4p but volunteer shift will start at 2p to budget for travel time to arrive at the venue by 2:30p for setup. Training and teaching support will be provided throughout the semester. Badger Volunteers may be asked to assist with other science event preparation duties.

We are looking for individuals to work with our high school youth program participants, primarily students involved in athletics, to help keep them on track socially, emotionally, and academically. Volunteers in this position will offer academic assistance, such as tutoring, to help ensure that school assignments are completed. Every Friday from 6 to 8 pm, a diverse group of Americans and internationals meets for English practice, cross-cultural exchanges, friendships, and fun. Many international families participants bring along the children. We need loving and caring childcare volunteers to engage and take care of the children while the parents attend the program. Children usually range from 1 years to 12 years old. We have a fully equipped nursery and an art room where older children can do art projects under the supervision of volunteers. Older children can also be engaged in our play room which has games, ping pong table, futsal, and air hockey table. Help us answer the nearly 1 million requests for help we receive each year. Your donation of time goes a long way to ending hunger. 1 hour of volunteer service has the equivalent value of up to 72 meals at Second Harvest! From inspecting produce to transforming 800+ pound bags of cereal into family-size portions, Product Recovery volunteers help prepare food for distribution to families struggling with hunger. Duties may include sorting food, labeling food, packaging bulk food into family friendly portions, and cleaning work area at shift end.

More Information Market Session Assistant Spring 2020

Assist during a pantry session by helping over 700 families in need each week to select food from our 100% client-choice food pantry, as well as assist those in need from our free clothing area. We also serve dinner to clients and volunteers, so helping in the kitchen is another area where we need volunteers. There are many different opportunities to help at The River such as distributing meat, dairy items, or produce, greeting clients, and loading groceries in clients' carts.

Some people set up equipment as others assist participants in getting to the community room. At the end of the evening, students, assist people in getting back to their apartments, disconnect the equipment and put it back in the storage closet.
