On dates when Field Trip groups are not scheduled, BV's will assist the Discovery Connections team in tasks related to science event preparation and lab management. Duties include routine cleaning and organizing the lab and storage spaces, restocking and organizing science activity kits and materials, preparing for future activities, working with other volunteers and support staff, and other tasks as assigned. Training and support will be provided. Occasionally, shifts will be located at local community schools or will involve walking with students to other campus buildings. Lead our future leaders! We are looking for Community Troop Leader Teams to make a difference and support our Girl Scouts in their leadership development journey! As a Community Troop Leader Team, you’ll be part of introducing girls to new experiences that show them they’re capable of more than they ever imagined. Girl Scout volunteers are imaginative, committed and dynamic! These opportunities focus on serving our underserved and under-resourced Girl Scouts through partnerships with schools, youth-serving organizations and other community organizations. The Council will partner each Badger Volunteer team with a community leader to lead fun activities and earn badges with troops grades K-12. DATES/TIMES: Meetings take place on weekdays after school. Many sites have some flexibility on the times and days of the week the troops meet. Meetings typically run 1-2 hours which includes setup, meeting, tear-down and planning for the next meeting. ***Please note that the 3:30- 6 PM timeframe listed is a window with some wiggle room within. We will work with you to find a 1- 2 hour set time that works with your schedule on the day you sign up for. We are looking for individuals to work with our high school youth, primarily students involved in athletics, to help keep them on track socially, emotionally, and academically. Volunteers in this position will offer academic assistance, such as tutoring, to help ensure that school assignments are completed. Individuals signing up for this position must understand that this position requires some initiative on their end to engage with these teens. So if you have a genuine interest in talking with teens, building relationship, and an understanding that relationships with these students will take time, this volunteer opportunity is for you. East High School Athletics Department runs the study tables in conjunction with Goodman staff. Volunteers need to participate in the school districts approval process which takes about two weeks.

In our K-5th grade after school program, Badger Volunteers are assigned to a specific classroom for the entire semester. Volunteers help children with homework completion and other academic supports (tutoring, quiet reading, etc.). They also assist classroom teachers with planned activities, help support the daily schedule/routine, and make the classroom more fun by providing additional classroom engagement opportunities for the children in program! Lake View Community School Outdoor Classroom

More Information Outdoor Classroom Volunteer Spring 2023

Support our Outdoor Learning Program Coordinator with various tasks relating to the development, maintenance, and utilization of Lake View Community School's Outdoor Classroom. Tasks will mostly be outdoors in varied weather conditions and may include weeding and mulching our school garden, landscaping in our school forest, and taking students outdoors to engage in nature based learning projects. Lake View Community School is a public elementary school (K-5) located on the north side of Madison on three acres of land that includes a school forest, garden, prairie, pollinators beds, and fruit bearing trees and bushes. Approximately 80% of our students are considered low income, 73% are BIPOC, and 40% are English Lanugage Learners (with 15 home languages represented!) For many of our students, school is the only place they engage with nature. Badger Volunteers are a vital resource for developing and maintaining our beautiful school grounds and their presence makes it easy for students and teachers to take learning outdoors!

More Information Cook for Youth Spring 2023

POSITION SUMMARY: Join the cooking team & assist staff with cooking healthy and nutritious meals for elementary, middle and high school-aged students participating in afterschool programming at the Lussier Community Education Center. Volunteers prepare meals for students on Mondays and Fridays during the academic year. HOURS: 4-8 hours/week (time dependent on number of shifts per week) Mondays and/or Fridays 2:30 PM – 6:30 PM DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Following a pre-made meal plan, prepare and serve the dinner meal to 50-80 students. Some foods will have been prepared during the morning volunteer shift. (i.e. potatoes used in mashed potatoes will be washed and peeled; frozen meats will be thawed.) 2. Following the meal, store leftovers, and clean kitchen. Students will bring leftover food and dishes to the kitchen window and will clean off tables before storing. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Experience preparing meals for large numbers of people. 2. Ability to work collaboratively with people of all ages and from diverse backgrounds, and with minimal supervision from LCEC staff. 3. Mature attitude, creativity & resourcefulness. 4. Understanding and appreciation of socio-economically, ethnically and culturally diverse populations. POSITION SUMMARY: Join the Food Pantry Team & prepare our pantry for shoppers. In this role, volunteers sort the food donations that are delivered to the LCEC each Tuesday & Friday. HOURS: 2-4 hours/week, (time dependent on number of shifts per week) Tuesdays 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM or Fridays 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Set up donation acceptance space with tables. 2. Meet the donation pick-up volunteer team outside the LCEC at 2:00 PM to help unload the donations using wheeled carts. 3. As donations come inside, weigh the product, enter into database, and sort into categories on tables. 4. Sort food: 1. Sort unperishable items onto categorized shelves in Pantry or Grab-and-Go refrigerator. 2. Sort bread and bakery items into bags of assorted kinds and close with twist ties. 3. Sort produce into same category bins. Place produce that needs to be kept cool in fridge. 4. Repackage food items that came from salad bar into plastic shell containers. Label with the name, allergens, and expiration date. 5. After all food has been sorted, spray down bins and tables. Put tables away. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Understanding and appreciation of socio-economically, ethnically, and culturally diverse populations. 2. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

The covid 19 pandemic has compelled Madison International Partners to adopt a new operation mode. The organization now offers English conversation opportunity online via zoom which allows participants from all part of the world (Poland, Brazil, Vietnam, Turkey, Colombia, etc, ...) to join every Wednesday between 10 and 11 am for an hour of conversation and cross-cultural exchanges. This may include meat, dairy, produce, shelf-stable items, eggs, etc. • Add food items to shopping carts. This is done as clients visit and fill out a menu of requested items. Our volunteers take each menu and fill the order, then return the filled cart to the correct client's vehicle. • Load client cars outside as they visit the pantry. This includes rolling full shopping carts outside, packing trucks or backseats with the items, being respectful and welcoming to the clients as they shop, and bringing empty carts back inside to be re-packed. Love working with little kids? Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Badgerland launched a new program this year, exclusively for our littlest Girl Scouts...Daisies Activate!!! Daisies Activate is held monthly on the third Friday of the month at the Madison Leadership Center. It's an opportunity for Kindergartners to learn everything it means to be a Girl Scout as they start off on their journey, all while making new friends, participating in a fun activity, and earning a patch for their brand new vest. It's also an opportunity for parents and guardians to build community within Girl Scouts that will last a lifetime. Badger Volunteers will work independently and collaboratively with the Leadership Development Manager to create content and develop activities for each month's program, based on a different theme. This could be a craft, game, art project, etc. The program development will be done remotely during the "off-weeks" leading up to each month's program. All Daisies Activate programs will take place at the Madison Leadership Center located at 4801 S. Biltmore Ln., Madison, WI 53718. Support our Outdoor Learning Program Coordinator with various tasks relating to the development, maintenance, and utilization of Lake View Community School's Outdoor Classroom. Tasks will mostly be outdoors in varied weather conditions and may include weeding and mulching our school garden, landscaping in our school forest, and taking students outdoors to engage in nature based learning projects. Lake View Community School is a public elementary school (K-5) located on the north side of Madison on three acres of land that includes a school forest, garden, prairie, pollinators beds, and fruit bearing trees and bushes. Approximately 80% of our students are considered low income, 73% are BIPOC, and 40% are English Lanugage Learners (with 15 home languages represented!) For many of our students, school is the only place they engage with nature. Badger Volunteers are a vital resource for developing and maintaining our beautiful school grounds and their presence makes it easy for students and teachers to take learning outdoors!

POSITION SUMMARY: Join the cooking team & assist staff with cooking healthy and nutritious meals for elementary, middle and high school-aged students participating in afterschool programming at the Lussier Community Education Center. Volunteers prepare meals for students on Mondays and Fridays during the academic year. HOURS: 4-8 hours/week (time dependent on number of shifts per week) Mondays and/or Fridays 2:30 PM – 6:30 PM DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Following a pre-made meal plan, prepare and serve the dinner meal to 50-80 students. Some foods will have been prepared during the morning volunteer shift. (i.e. potatoes used in mashed potatoes will be washed and peeled; frozen meats will be thawed.) 2. Following the meal, store leftovers, and clean kitchen. Students will bring leftover food and dishes to the kitchen window and will clean off tables before storing. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Experience preparing meals for large numbers of people. 2. Ability to work collaboratively with people of all ages and from diverse backgrounds, and with minimal supervision from LCEC staff. 3. Mature attitude, creativity & resourcefulness. 4. POSITION SUMMARY: Join the Food Pantry Team & prepare our pantry for shoppers. In this role, volunteers sort the food donations that are delivered to the LCEC each Tuesday & Friday. HOURS: 2-4 hours/week, (time dependent on number of shifts per week) Tuesdays 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM or Fridays 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Set up donation acceptance space with tables. 2. Meet the donation pick-up volunteer team outside the LCEC at 2:00 PM to help unload the donations using wheeled carts. 3. As donations come inside, weigh the product, enter into database, and sort into categories on tables. 4. Sort food: 1. Sort unperishable items onto categorized shelves in Pantry or Grab-and-Go refrigerator. 2. Sort bread and bakery items into bags of assorted kinds and close with twist ties. 3. Sort produce into same category bins. Place produce that needs to be kept cool in fridge. 4. Repackage food items that came from salad bar into plastic shell containers. Label with the name, allergens, and expiration date. 5. After all food has been sorted, spray down bins and tables. Put tables away. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Understanding and appreciation of socio-economically, ethnically, and culturally diverse populations. 2. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Many international families participants bring along the children. We need loving and caring childcare volunteers to engage and take care of the children while the parents attend the program. Children usually range from 1 years to 12 years old. We have a fully equipped nursery and an art room where older children can do art projects under the supervision of volunteers. Older children can also be engaged in our play room which has games, ping pong table, futsal, and air hockey table. We will work in the Greenhouse to help start some seedlings for Spring Harbor Middle School Summer Garden Camps. Next we will prepare the garden beds for planting and begin planting seeds and seedlings. Removing invasive plants like sumac from the property is also one of our projects. working in the Butterfly Garden may be one of our projects. We have a range of outdoor activities in a large garden area. It all helps the Middle School program. Wear comfortable clothing that can get dirty and sometimes wet. This site is not wheel chair accessible yet. Digging in the dirt is a common task! :)
