Youth Education Team
Friends of Lake Wingra
All Badger Volunteers are required to attend an orientation, facilitated by the Badger Volunteers Executive Board, prior to volunteering. To attend an orientation, access the Zoom links here - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1pPdHUVZGodhVKFelfO1l64bjXfYjfpwE4ezenTxELyw/edit?usp=sharing
No registration is required for the orientations, but you need to attend one during the week of February 1 through 5.
This team of education-based volunteers will focus on creating or refining our existing youth activities. We use activities or educational resources to help children get outside and explore Lake Wingra or learn about wildlife and watershed issues specific to Lake Wingra. Some past projects include our Wingra ABCs, Vilas Park Children's Design Workshop, and bringing monarchs to classrooms. When we create these projects we typically work with elementary schools that serve our watershed residents to use these resources in the classroom. Through the course of the semester the team of volunteers would: -Review FoLW's existing educational resources -Propose ways to enhance those resources and with FoLW approval, work on those refinements - Suggest new activities for youth families and teachers and with FoLW approval, create these activities -Develop a high-level plan for how you see these activities being promoted or shared with teachers and families that FoLW could follow. -Meet virtually as a team to collaborate on this project. -Check-in with FoLW appointed staff to receive guidance, give updates, and have an additional thought partner as needed. Because this is an education-focused volunteer position, we are looking specifically for students who are pursuing educational degrees or have applicable experience in youth education. Please reach out to us if you aren't sure and want to talk more about it! This position can apply toward the UW Sustainability volunteering requirement.
We promote a healthy Lake Wingra through an active watershed community.
