West High School - Tutoring Center
All Badger Volunteers opportunities are completely virtual for the spring 2021 semester. Please disregard any transportation requirements because all opportunities are virtual and the dashboard has some functions that point to transportation even when we are not utilizing them this semester.
All Badger Volunteers are required to attend an orientation, facilitated by the Badger Volunteers Executive Board, prior to volunteering. To attend an orientation, access the Zoom links here - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1pPdHUVZGodhVKFelfO1l64bjXfYjfpwE4ezenTxELyw/edit?usp=sharing
No registration is required for the orientations, but you need to attend one during the week of February 1 through 5.
Virtual Tutoring through zoom: Badger Volunteers are matched with a high school student each week - to help them study/complete homework in one or two class subjects during the student's study hall. They may also provide help in organizational/study skills, and model what it means to be a student first. Badger Volunteers are available to otherwise provide drop-in help to other study hall students with homework questions (when their matched student is absent).
West High School's Tutoring Center is part of the larger 9th and 10th grade study hall. Students receive one-on-one tutorial support during their free period (before/after school, during study hall, or during lunch). Students usually self-refer for help in one or more subjects, and guidance is needed in content-area reading, writing, math, science, language and study skills. West has a diverse school of students and would welcome students of color as tutors. Tutors are needed every hour of the school day in either a semester-long tutor/tutee match or to assist individual drop-in students.
